UltraScurt
Ok, so on this one I might be a little biased because this is my mom’s book, which I helped to edit and publish. 😅
It’s a book that contains very short stories—ultra-short stories, as the name says. They are usually around 300 characters long. The idea came from a group that she was part of, where they created this kind of stories on a specific subject. It was a fun little thing to pass the time and use one’s creativity.
The book has a small format, it’s a pocket size book with around 130 pages, each story fits on one page.
The stories are not related, so you can open the book anywhere and start reading. They also vary a lot; the mood and atmosphere change—some are sad, some are fun, and a few are scary. And the best part is that the reader gets to fill in some of the blanks, giving the story a personal interpretation.
It was a fun and tiring process to help get this book published. I’ve read it about 7 times or more, removed 100+ other stories that didn’t make the cut, arranged and re-arranged the order in the manuscript, and gave input and suggestions on recreating some of the stories.
But the end result made it all worth it. The book came out exactly as we envisioned it, from the cover to the page design, fonts and spacing.
I recommend giving it a try.
