My thoughts

Our pensionaries dig up an old case and they’re back to their usual: solving murders and drinking tea.

I listened to this one as an audiobook read by Fiona Shaw. Those 11 hours of audio went by pretty quickly.

At the beginning I was a bit disappointed, but not with the new narrator, it’s just that I’ve expected to be still Lesley Manville voicing it since she did the previous 2 books. Once I got past the surprise, it was a good listen.

The book is action-packed - we have spies, spies spying on other spies, ex-KGB spy, drug dealers, a guy named “The Viking”, corrupt police personnel and more. Basically all the ingredients we’re used to in the “Thursday Murder Club” series.

We meet Connie Johnson in this one, a character that will also make an appearance in “The Last Devil to Die”.

One of the funniest moments is Ron’s inner-monologue during the couple’s massage. It’s exactly what you’d expect from an old English man who is a West Ham fan, no offense.

Overall I think I liked the previous book (“The Man Who Died Twice”) a little more, but that’s just me.

Description

This description is grabbed from Google Books or Goodreads
It is an ordinary Thursday and things should finally be returning to normal. Except trouble is never far away where the Thursday Murder Club is concerned. A decade-old cold case leads them to a local news legend and a murder with no body and no answers. Then, a new foe pays Elizabeth a visit. Her mission? Kill...or be killed. As the cold case turns white hot, Elizabeth wrestles with her conscience (and a gun), while Joyce, Ron and Ibrahim chase down clues with help from old friends and new. But can the gang solve the mystery and save Elizabeth before the murderer strikes again?
