Aliens Omnibus, Vol. 1
After watching Alien (1979), Aliens (1986) and Alien: Romulus (2024) I wanted to get into more of the lore around the Alien world, timeline, etc. I knew there were comics about this and they are meant to expand the universe of Alien and provide more details about it.
The problem was there were too many comics and it wasn’t clear to me what order I needed to read them in. It was kind of a hard task to try and understand which one was the one you want to start with.
After a few more days I got to the Aliens Omnibus series and this one seemed to be a collection of all the comics placed in deluxe volumes that bring the story together as much as possible. This seemed to be the most accessible solution available.
Vol 1 contains:
- Aliens: Outbreak
- Aliens: Nightmare Asylum
- Aliens: The Female War
- Aliens: Theory of Alien Propagation
- Aliens: The Alien
At the beginning I wasn’t to excited about the art style in Outbreak, but once I got to the other items in Vol 1 it was so much better. It probably has to do with me being more used to manga and not comics.
Soon enough I got invested in the story line.
A religion or cult appears to be trying to portray the aliens as the saviors. By letting yourself be consumed by the aliens , you will become one with the rest, part of a bigger whole— sort of a merge with the aliens, where in reality , you’re just food for them.
All of this is happening because of the telepathic abilities of the aliens , that are placing these thoughts in the minds of key people.
We get an outbreak of alien infestation. We find out about a conspiracy in which the military and the corporation that were in charge of terraforming other planets had been bringing aliens to Earth in order to use them as weapons.
On top of that , there is an extra layer of conspiracy involving only the top leaders of the military and some scientists that wanted to do a “reset” on Earth , where they would wipe out everything — and most importantly , everyone — with the help of the aliens , only to come back later to terraform it again and make it suitable for a new stage of humanity : an improved version of it.
This last part sounds like the concept of “new man” , present in any communist and fascist movement. They all had this obsession.
Also, there is another alien race that we’re introduced to.
