A few years ago (end of 2022) I’ve taken a trip to Bilbao, Spain where I had a great time and took some nice pictures.

We landed in Bilbao, spent some days in there, took a 1-day trip to Mundaka, and after that we went for a couple of days to San Sebastian.

Bilbao

I didn’t know what you expect from Bilbao, had not done any previous in depth research about it. I knew about the football team, that they are in Basque Country, but nothing about the transformation the city/region has gone through from industrial to this cultural center.

And it was such a pleasant surprise.

Good food, nice beer, the city is very accessible (the most accessible I visited), easy to get around, beutiful buildings, seaside on one side (get the subway and you’re there), hills on the other if you want a quick hike, Guggenheim Museum in walking distance.

Did I mentioned pintxos?

It’s on the top of the “list of cities I want to visit again”.

Mundaka

This was a 1-day trip from Bilbao to Mundaka.

We took the train to Itsasbegi-Busturia and from there we walked to Mundaka.

Had lunch, watched the tide come and go, it’s pretty nice to see that estuary getting so dry that you can literary cross it on foot during the low tide and once the high tide comes you need to use the actual bridge.

San Sebastian

Ok, so San Sebastian is like a hidden gem. The location, the weather, the little golf with that island in the middle (Isla de Santa Clara), the beaches, all this makes it a lovely place to visit.

We arrived during the film festival that takes place there, it wasn’t planned, it happened. That explains why there was so hard to find accomodation.
