A month ago we decided to move from Bucharest to Brașov for a while.
It’s not a permanent move, we needed some time away from Bucharest which was too hot this summer. Also, it was a good way to explore some of the things Brașov has to offer on a longer stay. We’ve been here a number of times before, but it was always only a few days.
Knowing it’s one month we brought only the necessary stuff. Things like a desk and second screens were left behind and only our laptops were placed in the bags.
Usually, I can do a lot of my work using one screen; on the other hand, at home, I can always connect my laptop to one of the monitors if things get more complicated. This is something that you usually overlook: the fact that I have that option in the first place.
That being said, I realized I would need some more screen real estate for work.
I ended up buying a portable external monitor from Arzopa. To be more precise I got the model Arzopa Z1RC 16.1 inch WQXGA.
PROs
- It’s a high resolution (2560 x 1600), 16:10 display that has very good colors, good brightness, no touch screen and it’s incredibly light. Be careful when you pull it out of the box, or you might throw it away expecting it to be heavier.
- The build is metallic, nice to the touch, it has a stand that allows it to be used horizontally or vertically (this is a big plus, because that’s how I use it 90% of the time).
- It has all the good ports: USB-C, mini HDMI. On older laptops you can run it with USB for power + mini HDMI for video. On newer models you can run it with USB-C only. All cables are included in the box.
- You can also run it from your phone or tablet. It was a good experience when I tested it with Samsung DeX from my S22 phone.
CONs
- It also has speakers, I don’t know why they added speakers to it because they’re very poor.
- The back is a fingerprint magnet.
I’m very happy with the purchase and I can see myself bringing it with me if I’m away for longer periods of time.
Most of the time, I use it vertically; it connects right away (no fuss, no gimmicks) t just works. I do use it at 100% resolution/scale, but it looks better when scaled to 125% (it’s easier on the eyes).
